McCain a gambling man? Let us count the ways he lost his most recent bet

John_mccainNewsweek's Richard Wolffe on Olbermann tonight talking about John McCain's hubris with regard to the bailout:

Here we have John McCain failing to live up to his own standards, his own measures. He said that he would suspend his campaign and get a deal he did neither. He said wouldn't debate until he got a deal there was no deal but he debated anyway. He said he wasn't going to phone it in—he was going to be fully involved—and he went to the phones. And, lastly his surrogates tried to claim credit for the deal but it ultimately fell apart. So by his own measure, McCain lost at least four different ways just in the last three or four days.

McCain-Wrong, Wrong, and Wrong Again!

Surviving These Times

Oscar Schertzer knows a little bit about survival. A robust older gent with a twinkle in his eye, the author and entrepreneur survived the horrors of the Nazi occupation of France.(which he detailed as a 20 year old in what would become  his book"Under Swastica And French Flag")
A deep thinker with a quick and incisive wit,he is someone who has seen so much, that it takes a lot to get his hackles up. So when a guy like that says to "watch out", my fight or flight instincts go into high gear!!
I caught up with Oscar and his charming wife Estelle over cookies and coffee at the  Croton Baking For Change fundraiser . The sale, which was the third such event, raised incredible $1,142, and brought the total up to a little over $3600 to help get Barack Obama elected.

Let Them Eat Cake!!

Greetings Obama Supporters,

It’s bake sale time again!  I am organizing another "Hungry for Change" bake sale with the proceeds being donated to the Barack Obama campaign.  It will be held on Saturday, September 27th from 10:00 to 2:00 next to the CVS in Croton-on-Hudson (Route 129 & Municipal Place).

The last "Hungry for Change" bake sale that was held in Croton raised $1,657!  I hope that you will drop by the bake sale to help raise money to put Barack Obama in the White House.  We also will have buttons and bumper stickers at the table for sale.  The lawn signs will hopefully arrive by Saturday, so if you've already ordered them, you can hopefully come pick them up (I will confirm by the end of the week).

We need plenty of baked goods to sell, so if you are able to make some cookies, cake, cup cakes, brownies, or your favorite dessert recipe, please let me know by responding to this email.

Please drop off your donated baked goods at the table between 9:30 and 10:00.  If you are not able to drop them off at this time, please let me know and I can make other arrangements.

Please be sure to forward this email to others who may be interested in supporting this event.

Hope to see you then.

P.S., Don't forget the Obama fundraiser to be held on Sunday, September 28th in Cortlandt Manor.

Fundraising Party to Benefit

Barack Obama

September 28, 2008

  Time: 4PM

Place: Susan & Alan Bandes

7 Harrison Drive, Cortlandt Manor, NY

914-737-8893

Suggested Donation: $50/person

3 Susans you know, Susan Bandes, Susan Chitwood and Susan Lanzano,

are committed to helping Barack Obama win the presidential election in November.

Frankly, we are frightened that Republican scare tactics are persuading too many voters to vote for McCain and his running mate. What's her name? This campaign is about putting the people's interests ahead of the special interests, but to do that, Barack needs help from all of us.

We hope to fulfill our fundraising goal by the time of our pro-Obama

event September 28. To help us achieve that goal, you can go to the web page below and click the thermometer to make a donation.

  http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/3susans

We must get the US back on the right track!

That won't happen if McCain is elected.

RSVP by September 24th to your favorite Susan:

"The Card Monte" anyone?

So, lemme" get this straight now!?! Rick Davis John McCain's campaign manager, has drawn as much as $30,000 a month(of late$15,000) to NOT lobby on behalf of "Fannie and Freddie".
Would somebody please tell me where I can get one of those jobs.
Apparantly, his defense is that his firm Davis & Manafort, and not he personally, was paid.
Regardless of whether or not he continued to draw a salary, as an owner in the company, he has benefited personally from our collective suffering. To claim otherwise is to engage in the typical “three card monte” game that the principals in the RNC have become so adept at playing.

PBS Palin"Competency" Poll

PBS is conducting an instant online poll regarding the competency of Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin. The GOP has launched an all out blitz to get Republicans to go to the site and click "yes", and they have done so in great numbers The results at this time indicate that 62%  of "America" think Palin is qualified. The Republicans are going to be milking this for all its worth in their press efforts.

We need to drive more Democrats andothers opposed to Palin to the site to click "NO".Lets not give the GOP another easy weapon to put in their arsenal

Here's the link:

You don't have to enter your email address or anything, just click

A Open Letter To Croton Democrats

Most would agree that high amongst Croton's strongest assets has been its inclusiveness. While we all have our own individual bones to pick, we are united by a transcendant sense of community, tolerence and  caring. Put differently, our shared concerns are far greater than our differences. This election has been especially challenging for democrats who are suffering from what someone wisely called an embarassment of riches, that is, two extraordinarily talented leaders, a woman and a black man emerging at the same time. Electoral Politics is by design a zero sum game, and regretably there can be no winner unless there is a loser.
Clearly, the gallant loser in this historic primary understandably enjoys tremendous support in this region, as well she should.  It appears, however, a sizable contingent of our Democratic stalwarts, historically Hillary supporters, seem to be sitting the presidential election out in the aftermath of a brutal primary. They are falling prey to the classic GOP divide and conquer politics. By contrast the contemporary Republicans would rally behind a rattlesnake as long as it long as at could shake to their reactionary beat.
If we "Dems"do not find it within ourselves to put aside internecine squabbling  and "unite the party" we will increasingly  find ourselves in the midst of a warmongering McCarthyesque scenario, facing an eviscerated Supreme Court put in place by incompetent opponents that we allowed to steal yet another election.
Think about it!!
